Freeze Substitution

A physiochemical process in which water frozen within cells is replaced by organic solvents at subzero temperatures; widely used as an aid for ultrastructural and immunocytochemical analysis of cells by electron microscopy

Correlative microscopy: Bridging the gap between fluorescence light microscopy and cryo-electron tomography
Freeze Fracture

Method of specimen preparation for the electron microscope in which rapidly frozen tissue is cracked so as to produce a fracture plane through the specimen.
Cryo Sectioning

Cryosectioning is a procedure that involves freezing tissue sections in a High Pressure Freezer. After the section is sufficiently frozen, it can then be cut it to the desired thickness  with a cryo microtome.
